Koilsagar Dam, located in Mahbubnagar District, Telangana, is a medium-sized irrigation project that beautifully combines historical significance with natural charm. Constructed during the Nizam government period (1945–1948) at a cost of ₹80 crores, the project was designed to meet the irrigation needs of nearly 12,000 acres of farmland. Even today, it continues to play a vital role in supporting agriculture in the region.
Built across the Peddavagu stream, a tributary of the Krishna River, Koilsagar Dam is set in a picturesque valley between two mountains, making it one of the most scenic spots in the district. The large reservoir and lush greenery attract tourists, nature lovers, and photographers. A guest house near the project offers excellent views of the dam and its surroundings, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons.
The ideal time to visit Koilsagar Dam is July to February, when the reservoir is full and the surroundings are at their greenest. The monsoon season enhances its beauty, making it one of the most serene destinations in Mahbubnagar.
